On Friday, Hubby and I went to "The Village", as I had a 30% off our entire purchase coupon to use.
I adopted a couple of items; two "kitschy" and two blue.
First the Kitsch. When I spotted one of these two salt and pepper shakers, I thought it was a lone dog figurine... turning it around, I was pleased to see it was in fact an old shaker. So the hunt was on for it's mate. I found it hiding in another area tucked behind some kitchenware. Naughty, naughty little one.
Upon closer inspection, I revised my first impression - with the two holes on each side of the nose, it looks like whiskers once were glued there.... so they are in fact kittens, not pups! Awesome!
Even better, they are Japanese:
They may not be in perfect condition, but who can resist such a sweet face at $1.40 for the pair?
I also found a great blue transferware plate in great condition for $2.09:
Speaking of blue, I also discovered one more piece to my Cobalt Blue collection (the bowl on the far left of this photo). With my 30% discount, this latest piece was a mere 70 cents.
It's an "accidental" collection - I don't go out looking for them, but if they're cheap, I'll pick them up. I love the way they glow in the sunlight.
Do you have any "accidental collections"?

No wonder you had to go shopping with a 30% off coupon. You did good! I thought they looked more like cats...just adorable. Love the blue you found too. It was a good day:-)
ReplyDeleteYeah; is it just me, or is it harder and harder to find nice stuff at the thrifts?
DeleteMaureen, these are as cute as can be, love the plate as well.

Thanks Dagmar!
DeleteI think all my collections are "accidental" collections! Glad you found some goodies!
ReplyDeleteHa! I guess a lot of mine are too!
DeleteI am nuts about the cobalt collection you have. Accidental collections? I guess they all start out that way...lol
ReplyDeleteAh cobalt - 'tis a weird thing... some vendors want an arm and leg for them, and sometimes you can find them for a steal. But I do love the way the sunlight shines through them!
DeleteThe shakers are pretty cute, so what if they're not perfect!
ReplyDeleteThis is true! They are adorable.
DeleteBeautiful blue transferware. I love finding treasures like that. Hugs, Deb
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb! I knew you would like the plate... I've seen your collection ;)
DeleteBeautiful blue transferware plate. I have so many collections that I have started accidentally. I didn't intend to start a collection, but you get one and then if you see another one, you just have to have it. (I don't like to call it an addiction).
ReplyDeleteJudy
Nope not an addiction ;)
DeleteBut it is funny how some just seem to grow on their own...
Thank you Judy!
Maureen, you thrifted some lovely pieces! it is great that many of those lovely items can be Re-loved by us!

Sometimes I wonder how people can give away some of the things we find - yes, I love to recycle! ;)
